TOM HURLEY ART

I am a Fruit Loop in a bowl of Cheerio’s!  I enjoy working with bold and saturated colours in order to draw attention from the audience and evoke feelings of dominance, presence and pride.  I take great pleasure in wearing clothes full of exaggerated, powerful colour and unique pattern as a way of expressing the individuality and confidence within me in order to make others take notice of me.  There is a strong connection between my art and my fashion, I feel like I wear my art as well as make it, and I use my passion for painting and sculpture as a vehicle to express this growing connection.  Both are a means of representing my unique identity as an artist and as a person in modern society.

 

I consider the objects I make to be items of clothing.  Creating eye-catching sculptural forms that emphasise visual aspects within fashion such as creasing, shape, colour and pattern, whilst incorporating visually pleasing and original fashion designs that I sell online.  colour is more than visually pleasing to me, it has the ability to create a transformation within a person or object.  I was once a lifeless and un-noticeable tailor’s dummy but now I have transformed into a powerful and confident presence.  Colour extracted this transformation from within me and helps to create a visual of who I am.  By taking colour away, you are taking away a part of me.
